MILITARY UBER ALLES?

Anyone else a tad concerned about the authority both parties are ascribing to America's top military brass in this election season? Isn't the hallmark of our democratic system that the military keep their butts out of the political process and let the people decide? This--and the Democrats' national security tunnel vision at the convention--is a worrisome precedent.

Count me in. If the US really does go into a state of decline, this glorification of the military, both directly and indirectly (things like "boot camp for troubled teens") will certainly be identified as one of the causes.

It's not surprising when you combine Hollywood's inability to resist the cash-generating abilities of Rambo-like characters (should I say charicatures?) with a Baby-Boomer population that mostly didn't server - includes me, BTW - and is materially satieted and now looking for fantasies.
